Cycle Hub to Visit Dinnington Resource Centre
16th October 2015
On Friday 23 October the popular one-stop mobile Cycle HUB will be at Dinnington Resource Centre from 10am to 4pm.
Local residents are invited to visit the HUB, which provides a range of free cycle related services to encourage people to make the switch to two wheels. Cllr Jeanette Mallinder of Dinnington Ward, Vice-Chairman, Health Select Commission, said: -Cycling is a great way to get around; it's affordable, improves health, the local environment and helps to ease congestion. We are delighted to host the Cycle HUB in Dinnington - offering local people the opportunity to try cycling if they don't already cycle, get their bike checked by a fully trained mechanic, as well as find information and advice on cycle training to help them commute confidently. The HUB was established in June 2015 by Rotherham Borough Council's 'Journey Matters' programme, with the vision of encouraging 4 out of 5 local journeys to be by cycle, foot or public transport by 2020. Supported by the Local Sustainable Transport Fund Inmotion! and Cycleboost schemes, it offers a range of cycle support services to communities in Rotherham and Barnsley to remove the barriers that prevent people from riding a bike. The HUB's three main services are as follows: Free Pedal or Electric Bike Hire for up to three months - this includes the free loan of a quality bike with all the accessories including helmets, bike locks and lights. Bikes are maintained throughout the loan period and participants are fully supported with cycle training and route planning if required. A range of pedal, electric and folding bikes will be available for people to try out at the HUB. Free Adult and Family Cycle Training - offered to anyone taking up cycling to improve their confidence and skills. Sessions can be one to one or group training and can be tailored to the individual's needs, for example route planning and accompanied rides from a participant's home to work. Free Dr Bike Check-up and Repair - a bike mechanic will be at the HUB to undertake bike checks and minor repairs for people who already have a bike.
