Daniel celebrates 10 years at Olmec/Surelight

October 2014 saw 27 year old technical director, Daniel Hewitt, celebrate 10 years of working with Sheffield's lighting specialist, Olmec Advanced Materials/Surelight.

Born and bred in Sheffield, Daniel joined the company straight from Castle College, Sheffield, deciding to learn his skills on the job rather than opting for further education and it has certainly paid off! Daniel joined the company during the early stages of its venture into lighting and so he has seen the business grow substantially into being a leader in the field of lighting that it is today. Starting right at the beginning, picking and packing Olmec/Surelight's products, Daniel has moved through the company's various departments, and has been trained by managing director, Paul Lancaster, to support him in his management of the business. Responsible for a raft of management tasks and a team of people throughout the company, Daniel now provides the training himself, and earlier in the year was rewarded for his hard work and experience with a promotion to Olmec/Surelight's technical director. The role recognises Daniel's substantial technical experience in the field of lighting and his expertise in issues such as 3D simulation of lighting systems which gives the customer a demonstration of how various options will affect the distribution of lighting in a particular space and lighting control. Working mainly on large commercial projects, Daniel is often called upon to take his expertise out on site to help Olmec/Surelight's customers and potential customers with their lighting needs. A bit of an IT geek (his own words!), Daniel unwinds in his spare time by honing his skills on graphics software. Ready for the next challenge at work of course! He is, however, now taking to the roads on his new bike and is determined to get into racing shape in order to do some charity work next year.
