David takes centre stage at SIV Awards

13th June 2017

The man at the heart of sports and community projects for SIV has been honoured with a prestigious award.

David Bly, 32, from Oughtibridge, Sheffield, dry sports programme and engagement manager at SIV, was the recipient of the Manager of the Year award at the 18th annual SIV Awards ceremony. The awards show recognised staff and partners of SIV, part of the not-for-profit Sheffield City Trust (SCT) for excellence in the field of customer service and contribution to the community across seven categories. With several nominations from his colleagues, David, who started at the company as an on-ice steward at iceSheffield, was recognised for his outstanding work ethic and continuous promotion of the work of SCT to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Sheffield. Paul Hudson, general manager at EISS, said: -Without David's brilliant attitude and support, we would not be in the position we are today. He has demonstrated significant leadership skills, developing structures, processes and people that puts the organisation in the best possible position to deliver on objectives. -His commitment, professionalism and excellent organisation skills are second to none. He continually seeks opportunities to work with and engage the local community, and has raised the profile of SCT as a company that cares and invests in the people of Sheffield. -He is absolutely worthy of this accolade and I'm sure he will continue to work hard on future projects. David said: -Having worked at SIV for more than 14 years, I'm humbled to receive the prestigious Manager of the Year award. -I like to think I have received this as a result of the hard work, dedication and positive attitude I've put into my role throughout my entire time here. -SIV are a superb organisation to work for and I look forward to helping them deliver more fantastic initiatives for years to come! Also honoured at the special event were Clare Wasden, who received the Health & Wellbeing Champion award for her work on the GP Referral Scheme; David Thorpe won Employee of the Year for inspiring colleagues and his excellent customer service; and Philippa Colley, from SIV Events, who won the Sales Award for her innovative ideas. Business Partner of the Year went to Street League, who use inspirational venues to engage young people who need support to progress both in employment and socially. They run a ten-week course for hard to reach people, linking physical activity, upskilling of employment tools and punctuality to give them a progressive opportunity for employment. Team of the Year was awarded to Sheffield City Hall Domestics team, for their organisation and team work, and Hillsborough Leisure Centre won Venue of the Year for continuing to expand attendance levels. Steve Brailey, chief executive at SIV and David Grey, chairman of the SCT, also presented a silver salver to Howard Culley, who recently stepped down from the Sheffield City Trust board, after serving as chairman from 2008 to January this year. Steve Brailey added: -We are incredibly proud of our staff and the commitment they display on a daily basis towards the charitable and community initiatives we offer. -We have numerous programmes in place across Sheffield to help with cardiac rehabilitation, working with people who have been diagnosed with dementia and adults with autism, and reducing isolation in the elderly. -We continue to work closely with the community to help improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Sheffield, none of which would be possible without the fantastic staff who put 110% into everything they do.
