DBL Logistics chief appointed to UPN board

26th March 2014

Sheffield-based David Clarkson has been appointed as a non-executive director of the United Pallet Network (UPN).

Mr Clarkson, 46, is managing director of family firm DBL Logistics and will join the UPN board in an advisory capacity, acting as a regional representative for fellow companies within the national network. DBL Logistics, a founding member of UPN, recently opened its new £2m Huntsman Depot on Tinsley Park Road in Sheffield. The company warehouses and distributes a range of goods through UPN across the UK and to 26 countries around the world. David Clarkson, who will remain as managing director at DBL Logistics, said: -It's a fantastic honour to join the UPN board and act as a voice of the network to the directors. -As a founding member of UPN, I have been involved with the company for more than 12 years. I'm looking forward to working even closer with the management team to help continue the success UPN has enjoyed in recent years. -I want to be an important sounding board for the network and support in an advisory capacity on the future direction of UPN, which continues to expand, delivering more consignments to more locations than ever before. UPN, established in 2001, has a national network of more than 70 member depots which collects and delivers freight from across the UK and Europe, before transporting it to a central hub in Staffordshire. Martyn Chapman, UPN founder and chairman, added: -We are delighted that Dave has accepted our invitation to join the UPN Board as a non-executive director. He will work closely with our other non-executive directors, Leanne Urwin and Neil Chappelow. -Their collective knowledge and expertise of the transport industry along with that of the executive directors will allow UPN to continue to be at the forefront of pallet networks." DBL Logistics has seen turnover grow to £3million in the last year and aims to double this by 2018 following the expansion into new premises. It was recently named Sales Depot of the Year and Depots' Depot of the Year at the UPN annual member awards. DBL Logistics has also been awarded Platinum Depot member status with UPN after securing the Gold Depot award for three consecutive years. The standard is given to members who have shown high levels of delivery, customer service, investment and administration on a consistent basis.
