DBL Logistics
28th July 2015
DBL Logistics began life as Yorkshire Distribution Service, and was started by husband and wife Bert and Linda Clarkson more than 30 years ago with son and current managing director David joining in 1987 to complete the company initials.
We are a founding member depot of UPN (United Pallet Network), which has more than 75 depots throughout the UK and collects and delivers freight from across 26 countries in Europe. DBL Logistics is also the proud current back-of-shirt sponsor of Sheffield United Football Club, a club very close to the company's heart, and the British Basketball League's Sheffield Sharks. Under David's leadership, the company have seen a period of growth with the opening of its £2million, 33,500sqft flagship warehouse and office building on Tinsley Park Road in Sheffield, a move which enabled us to double our capacity to 6,000 pallets. The facility is named after Benjamin Huntsman, who was the inventor and manufacturer of crucible steel, as the site is located where one of his former factories once stood. We currently warehouse and distribute more than 120,000 pallets of goods across South Yorkshire and the North Midlands each year, employ 30 staff and we have an annual turnover of more than £3.5m a figure which has grown year on year. DBL Logistics enjoyed its most successful year to date in 2014, with a 31% increase in sales from the previous year, beating our previous record of sales in a year by almost £1million. Comparing March 2014 to March 2015, we have achieved a 57% growth in revenue. DBL Logistics continues to go from strength to strength, and the move to a new facility has played a massive part in our success over the last 12 months as it has enabled us to grow the business further. We have filled our depot and grown as a business quicker than we ever thought we would do, so much so that we are now currently in the process of expanding once again. Our sponsorship of Sheffield United Football Club, a two-year deal which started at the beginning of the 2013/14 season, has also helped raise the profile of our business on a local, regional, national and international basis with enquiries coming from as far as China in the last 12 months. It's certainly an exciting time for DBL Logistics and the future looks extremely bright. We have changed a lot during the last 30 years and the commitment of our staff and their dedication to the company will ensure that we continue to grow for the foreseeable future. We were awarded Sales Depot of the Year and Depots' Depot of the Year at the United Pallet Network (UPN) annual member awards in 2014, and we recently retained UPN platinum member status for the second consecutive year after previously securing gold status three years in a row. Platinum status is given to members who have shown the highest levels of delivery, customer service, investment and administration consistently over a three-year period. As well as our sales success, we are committed to our corporate social responsibility and we do as much as we can to give back to the local community. We are proud supporters of local youth housing charity Roundabout which provides assistance to young people aged 16 25, offering shelter and life skills to 150 homeless young people in Sheffield every day. We are proud to carry the charity's branding on our vehicles to help raise awareness in and around the city, and over the years we have raised more than £3,500 for the charity by fundraising and getting involved in charity events such as a recent Sleepout at Bramall Lane.
