Decision makers to meet businesses on city region growth

28th November 2012

MPs from Government and the Opposition will be attending a business event aimed at promoting economic success across the Sheffield City Region.

'Conference for Growth' will take place on 8 February 2013 at the Doncaster Racecourse to provide businesses with an opportunity to put their views, concerns and challenges to a variety of national and local decision makers. Michael Fallon MP, Minister of State for Business and Enterprise, will be attending, along with Labour Leader and Doncaster MP Ed Miliband. Organised by the Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire, Doncaster, Sheffield, and Barnsley & Rotherham Chambers of Commerce, the event follows on from the success of the Conference for Growth held in February 2012. Additional keynote speakers and panellists include James Newman (Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Chairman), Ben Still (LEP CEO), Jo Miller (Doncaster Council CEO), Adam Marshall (Director of Policy and Public Affairs, British Chamber of Commerce), Justin Urqurhart Stewart (Economist), William Beckett (William Beckett Plastics) and Clive Hutton (CH Power Tools). The conference will also be used to outline the Chambers' views on how the Sheffield City Region can kick start economic growth, as outlined in their 'Manifesto for Growth 2013', which will be launched at the same time. There will also be talks on entrepreneurship led by Alex Mardapittas (EMS) and Mike Wilkinson (I-Education) and a panel discussion with local businesses and stakeholders looking at how best to promote the Sheffield City Region. Panellists include Richard May (DLA Piper), Neil McDonald (AESSEAL and Master Cutler) and Steve Gill (Doncaster Sheffield Airport). Headline sponsor for Conference for Growth is IT services expert, Bull, an international company with a base in Barnsley. Tickets cost £20+VAT for Chamber members and £30+VAT for non-members and includes breakfast.
