Devolution Plans must Deliver on Local Economic Growth

11th July 2025

After the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill was introduced to Parliament today, Jonny Haseldine, Head of Corporate Governance and Business Environment Policy at the British Chambers of Commerce said:

“Businesses will welcome further devolution to communities across England if it helps accelerate local economic growth.

“As local leaders take on more responsibility, it’s essential that businesses have a seat at the table, shaping local growth plans and supporting the transformation of local infrastructure.

“Chambers are deeply rooted in their communities. With genuinely devolved democratic structures, our network can help build even stronger partnerships between the public and private sector. The long-term impact will be real benefits for local people and local places.”
