Eagles swoop in at Bluebell Wood

13th February 2018

Championship rugby league team Sheffield Eagles have been a soaring success at Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.

The Eagles, who are celebrating their return to Sheffield and a new permanent home at the city's Olympic Legacy Park, swooped in to meet families and staff at South Yorkshire's only children's hospice. Head coach and ex-England player Mark Aston, commercial director Mark Hannigan, chaplain Baz Gascoyne and players Max Garcia, Matt James, Matty Fozard and Joshua Toole had a tour of the hospice and met some of its children and young adults. The rugby team, which is celebrating 20 years since it won the Challenge Cup at Wembley and is the only club from South Yorkshire to have won the trophy to date, is also planning to hold a family fun day to fundraise for Bluebell Wood at a future match. Mark Aston, Head Coach, said: -It was a pleasure and very humbling to see the work of the team at Bluebell Wood. The way families in very difficult circumstances are supported is incredible and as a club we're looking forward to supporting Bluebell Wood in any way we can. Russ Hall, Corporate Fundraiser, Bluebell Wood, said: -We were delighted to welcome the Eagles and show them some of the ways we support our families. Their visit went down really well with our children, young adults and the team here, and really helped to make some special memories. We're really looking forward to doing more with them in the future.
