Easing the workload with voice technology

2nd June 2020

Using smartphone and smart speaker virtual assistants such as Siri and Alexa is an everyday occurrence for many at home and organisations are now increasingly adopting the use of voice technology in their day-to-day operations.

Prompted by the change to home working for huge numbers of us due to the coronavirus pandemic, voice technology (speech recognition) is being seen as a natural extension to the adoption of other technologies such as video conferences, webinars and so on.

James McPherson, CEO at Voice Technologies, explains, “We talk to customers every day who use speech recognition technology at home for searching the internet, making calls or controlling some internet-connected systems, but aren’t aware of the benefits it can bring in the workplace.

"Once we’ve demonstrated to them that incorporating speech recognition into their daily workflows is easier than they think, the perks become obvious and most are quick to adopt the technology. We’ve seen a surge in demand over the first half of 2020 as many are changing the way they work.”

The benefits of speech recognition are immediate:

  • Speaking is 40%* faster than typing.
  • Cloud-based speech recognition technology offers typical accuracy rate of 96% without any training.
  • Job satisfaction levels increase as time is freed up for customer care.

Whatever sector you’re in, public or private, voice technology can be used to streamline routine tasks such as form-filling, saving employees valuable time and increasing their productivity. Coupled with automated workflows, even more time can be saved as documents can be managed by voice commands, populated using speech recognition and then shared automatically. Saving employees’ time on administrative tasks has the added advantage of freeing up time for tasks that call for creativity and a human touch.

“Integrating voice recognition into our firm has been impressive. We’re delighted with the results of automated document production and the commercial advantages it’s brought us.”
