Eco-driving Lessons for South Yorkshire Residents

Road Safety specialists are offering South Yorkshire residents the chance to take part in free Eco-Driving lessons during November, to improve their road safety and to lower their fuel and vehicle maintenance costs by making small adjustments to their driving style.

The three two and a half hour sessions will be held at The Lifewise Centre in Rotherham from 10am to 12.30pm on Sunday 8, 15 and 22 November. Residents can book a place by emailing the Inmotion! team at travel@inmotion.co.uk. The Eco-driving lessons are delivered by registered Advanced Driving Instructors (ADIs), and vehicles are provided. To take part, attendees will need to bring their driving licence and National Insurance number, which will be used to check licence validity online on-the-day under the new licence checking guidelines. By implementing the techniques shown in the Eco-driving course, the average car driver, who covers around 12,000 miles a year, averaging 35mpg with fuel costing £1.12 a litre, could save between £100 - £200 a year, plus a reduction in wear and tear on the vehicle. John Greaves, a Senior Librarian Assistant from Rotherham who took part in a previous Eco-driving lesson, said: -The instructor was excellent and informative throughout. These sessions are really beneficial, especially to drivers who have been driving for many years. Technology is moving so quickly, it is all too easy not to get the very best from a vehicle which in turn can be costly to both the driver and the environment. The scheme, which is funded through Inmotion!, working with Sheffield City Council's Road Safety Section, has so far benefited over 1,000 drivers and 60 South Yorkshire businesses, since its launch in October 2013.
