Entrepreneur United with vice-president role
1st July 2013
Successful entrepreneur Martin Green has become a vice-president of Sheffield United Football Club.
Martin, 49, is founder and managing director of national company Redtooth, the leading supplier of entertainment for the pub industry across the UK. Originally from Tinsley in Sheffield, Martin launched the business as Hemlock Promotions in 1999 from an attic at his parents' home in Sheffield. He began the business by writing quiz questions for pubs across South Yorkshire something he continues to do today. It became Redtooth in 2001 and the business now employs more than 20 people at its headquarters in Barlborough, North Derbyshire and a further 20 people across the UK and abroad. Martin, who lives in Moorgate, Rotherham, is a life-long Blade and started supporting the club in 1972. He has been a regular season ticket holder at Bramall Lane and last year developed stronger links with United when Redtooth agreed to become away shirt sponsors for the 2012/13 campaign. Redtooth has recently agreed a two-year deal to take up the naming rights of United's Academy in Shirecliffe which has produced £25m worth of young talent in recent seasons. Martin said: -It's a fantastic honour to be appointed vice-president of the Blades. While the role is generally an honorary one, I'm keen to be very hands-on wherever possible, working with the club and directors to drive forward a new era at Bramall Lane. -I remember buying a season ticket for when the new main stand opened in 1975 and followed the club during the height of the Currie-Woodward era. To now play a part in the long-term development of Sheffield United is a life-long ambition realised. Martin joins a small group of vice presidents at the club. Julian Winter, Sheffield United chief executive, added: -Martin has a wealth of business experience behind him and an array of contacts across the country. He has developed Redtooth into a multi-million pound national business and will contribute enormously to the club's activities. -The vice presidents can bring benefits to the football club off the field. Martin has the entrepreneurial attributes which can enhance Sheffield United and we look forward to working with him. -Redtooth has been very supportive of the club over recent years and we are pleased to reaffirm our partnership with a successful local business. In addition to organising the nation's largest pub poker league, which has more than 1,000 venues and 150,000 players registered, Redtooth is the leading supplier of pub quizzes to the UK pub market with over 3,000 pubs and clubs receiving its weekly quiz. It also runs Redtooth Darts, a national event which sees hundreds of amateur darts players from more than 270 pubs compete to win a place on the PDC professional tour.
