Financial Trustee required - Lost Chord

4th April 2019

Lost Chord is a charity, founded in 1999, with the objective of improving the wellbeing and self- esteem of people living with Dementia in residential homes and day centres by the organisation and playing of interactive musical concerts.

Lost Chord contracts with highly trained professional musicians who perform, using music song and dance to help stimulate responses from those who often are unable to walk, talk, feed themselves or communicate in any way. To witness someone with dementia speak for the first time with music is tangible, powerful and emotional for all to see. Based in South Yorkshire, the charity staged 1650 concerts last year, through regular monthly visits to care homes and day centres in the S Yorks. area, London, Coventry, Ipswich and Cardiff. The Lost Chord office is based in Maltby near Rotherham and is administered by three part time employees- Chief Executive, Personal Assistant and Accounts Clerk, together with many volunteers for the concerts, with an annual operating cost of around £300,000, which is secured through a combination of funding applications and fund raising events. For further details please see our website- www.lost-chord.co.uk. We are now looking for a new Trustee to oversee the financial function of the charity, to replace the retiring Trustee/Treasurer, and generally contribute to the governance of the charity as a member of the Board of Trustees (currently seven). The trustees meet six times in the year in Rotherham and the meetings generally last for about a couple of hours. This is not an onerous commitment but provides an important support to the financial management of the charity, particularly for the part time accounts clerk, who is an extremely industrious and hard-working member of the team and uses SAGE accounting procedures in her day to day transactions. A knowledge of SAGE and the returns required by Charities Commission/Companies House would be beneficial. This is a voluntary appointment, which would suit a qualified accountant, probably from the S Yorkshire area, who is keen to join a well- established and lively charity, committed to helping to make the world a better place for people with dementia. Please contact Helena Muller, Chief Executive. Lost Chord The Wesley Centre Blyth Road, Maltby Rotherham S66 8JD 01709 811160
