Freeths recognised as Law Firm of the Year at highly respected City AM Awards 2025

8th May 2025

Leading law firm Freeths has received the accolade of Law firm of the Year at the prestigious national City AM Awards 2025. This comes less than a year after being awarded Law firm of the Year at the Legal Business Awards.

Marking City AM’s 20th anniversary this year, these significant awards represent one of the biggest and most keenly anticipated events in the business calendar, powered by a panel of incredible judges and offering recognition to the very best companies and leaders in the UK - whether they're based in the City or across the country.

As a Certified B Corporation™, Freeths was recognised amongst the leading firms in London’s business and financial community. Following a rigorous selection process, judges cited the business’s ongoing work on the Post Office litigation, representing the sub postmasters in their fight for justice and supporting the victims of the of the Horizon scandal in gaining compensation.

The firm was also recognised for its consistent year-on-year double-digit growth, with revenue surpassing £160 million for the first time in 2025.

This win comes after major, high-profile deal successes for Freeths over the last 12 months. Perhaps, most notably, advising accountancy firm MHA on its £250 million listing on London’s junior stock exchange AIM. The London team also advised the founders of the UK franchise of Wingstop on the sale of a majority stake in the business to global private equity firm Sixth Street.

Last year, Freeths advised the Substantial Group management team on its merger with Brsk, to mark the largest consolidation of alternative network providers to date.

Commenting on the Law Firm of the Year win, Senior Partner and London Office Managing Partner, Philippa Dempster said:

“What a year for Freeths! This win is such an incredible achievement and it’s a privilege to be included by the prestigious City AM within the London business and financial elite. Our lawyers persistently demonstrate an enviable tenacity through their leading work for clients. It’s this which I believe has truly shone through and clinched this accomplishment. With a culture devoted to inspiring our colleagues, clients and communities, this win motivates us to keep pushing the boundaries.”

Freeths London office was launched in June 2013 by Philippa and Partner and Head of London Corporate Tom Rowley. Now the second largest of 13 offices in the UK, it has since grown from a standing start to a vibrant 130-strong multi-disciplinary team in 2025.
