Freeths welcomes new Director of Responsible Business

23rd January 2025

Leading law firm Freeths has appointed Ben Churchill as its first Director of Responsible Business to enhance and drive forward its commitment to environmental, social and governance goals.

Joining from Watson Farley & Williams and with more than 15 years’ experience, Ben has a wealth of knowledge across the responsible business agenda. He brings with him extensive technical expertise surrounding sustainability, community engagement and wider ESG issues.

The hire will see Freeths continually build upon its community investment, environmental strategy, diversity and inclusion, and culture change commitments. As part of this, Ben will take accountability for developing and rolling out a clear, cohesive responsible business strategy that aligns and unifies Freeths’ various ESG goals.

Commenting on his appointment, National Managing Partner Karl Jansen said:

“Freeths is determined to lead the way across the industry in continuously developing and improving our diversity, equality and inclusion initiatives. I’m confident that Ben will not only strengthen our responsible business strategy but also prioritise Freeths’ commitment to sustainability and social impact as a B Corp-certified firm.”

Ben Churchill added:

“Freeths has an institutional commitment to driving progress in the responsible business space at a time when more and more, organisations are rightly being challenged by clients and wider stakeholders to take decisive action in these areas.

“In this new role, I see a real commitment to developing Freeths’ responsible business strategy even further. For me, being a responsible firm isn’t just about treating people and the planet fairly, it’s about looking across the entire value chain to seek ways to make positive change. I’m excited to see how we can help drive more meaningful impact across the sector.”
