From Chinese fitness to food business culture event with a difference
24th July 2015
Firms are being invited to a business event with a difference as business and academic experts share their knowledge against a backdrop of traditional music, food and fitness.
The Taste of China event will feature Chinese music, an authentic buffet, and fitness and meditation sessions, alongside interactive workshops and informative presentations. Jointly organised by South Yorkshire International Trade Centre (SYITC), UKTI, the China Britain Business Council, the Confucius Institute and the University of Sheffield, the informal event will give guests the opportunity to build up their awareness of culture and industry, as well as explore Chinese business dining etiquette and Taiji and Chinese meditation. Nick Patrick, head of international trade at SYITC, part of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, said: -The rapid development of China's economy continues to provide UK businesses with great opportunities. -However, lack of knowledge of the Chinese language, business cultures and the market can be major concerns for UK businesses. This interactive event will feature a host of experts ready to help overcome these obstacles, while showcasing the city's strong links with and understanding of China. The event, on 28 July, will feature interactive workshops from the Confucius Institute, part of the University of Sheffield. Guests will also be able to learn about the University's GREAT Ambassadors (China) Scheme, which links UK organisations seeking to develop business opportunities in China with Chinese speaking students who have a great knowledge of the language and culture. Steve Fish, Careers Service Director at University of Sheffield, said: -The University of Sheffield's Careers Service has secured UKTI funding to deliver the GREAT Ambassadors (China) Scheme which matches Chinese speaking students/graduates from the University with UK businesses to undertake paid internships. -This is an excellent opportunity for companies to recruit a Chinese speaking intern to enhance the organisation's trade relationship with China. The event will also hear from a speaker from the China-Britain Business Council and an expert will deliver a Chinese Business Dining Etiquette masterclass, ahead of the buffet, music, networking, and fitness and meditation sessions. A Taste of China will be held on July 28 between 5pm and 8:15pm at the University of Sheffield's Octagon Centre. For more information contact or visit www.syitc.com/events/taste-china/.
