Generous single bedding donations helps poorly older people at home

18th July 2022

Local older people’s charity Sheffield Churches Council for Community Care (SCCCC) has received a generous donation of brand new single bedding packs to support older people in their homes who require a hospital bed.

The charity provides single bedding sets to dress hospital beds for patients who require this type of bed at home. Patients are discharged from hospital and the bed is delivered but no bedding is supplied. Not everyone has single bedding readily to hand and some older people have no family or friends who can purchase the bedding. That’s where SCCCC can help, providing the bedding and dressing the bed ready for their return home.

Foresters Financial member, Elisaveta (Eli) Spiridonova, when hearing of SCCCC’s need for bedding decided to apply for a community fund, one of the unique benefits each member can access.
Eli said;

"Foresters Financial are not just a financial services company, they give their members unique benefits including helping support communities with volunteer grants and partnership activities.  I wanted to do something good and support my local community. I knew this bedding would be put to good use by SCCCC.’’

Eli applied for a £2,000 community grant to purchase 50 sets of brand new single bedding to dress hospital beds for vulnerable older people in their homes. She then put a call out to other Forester Financial members to come along and assist in the packing.

Jo Hudson, Regional Councillor for Foresters Financial who came along to pack said, ‘’It’s part of giving back to the community, that’s what Forester’s is all about. It encourages members to get involved and make a difference’’.

Together Eli and Jo put together the packs of bedding sets including a single flat sheet, single duvet set, pillowcases, pillows and anti-allergenic single duvets.

Ericka Hill, Fundraiser, Marketing and Communications Officer at SCCCC said; ‘’We are extremely grateful to Eli and Jo for their support. When an older person leaves hospital it can be a very stressful time, if they are unwell and have no family support, purchasing bedding just adds to their anxiety. At SCCCC we can help alleviate that stress by dressing the bed for them before they return home. With this very generous donation, we will be able to support many older people over the coming months.’’
