Give a Heartfelt Gift this Valentine’s Day at Meadowhall

13th February 2020

Meadowhall, Yorkshire’s No. 1 lifestyle destination, has the perfect gift for customers wanting a unique Valentine’s Day present for their loved one, and to do their bit for charity at the same time!

This February, customers can show their special someone how much they care with a personalised gift that will last a lifetime and make a difference by donating to the British Heart Foundation (BHF). Supporters can become a part of history by having their name, or the name of their loved one, engraved onto the 2.4-meter-high steel Heart for only £20, with each donation going towards the British Heart Foundation’s life-saving research.

The Heart of Steel, created by local sculptor and former steel-worker Steve Mehdi, has space for 150,000 names – an engraving is the perfect gift for that special someone this February.

The sculpture currently resides on Meadowhall’s The Arcade outside H Samuels. Its home in Meadowhall is particularly poignant as it represents the city’s long heritage of the steel industry as well as the new technologies and specialised manufacturing that are redefining South Yorkshire.

The Heart of Steel will form part of the highly anticipated Steel Man sculpture, also created by Steve Mehdi, which will overlook Sheffield and act as a gateway to the region.

To date, the Heart of Steel has raised over £650,000. The money is helping to fund the BHF’s life-saving research in to preventing, diagnosing and treating heart and circulatory diseases.

Darren Pearce, Centre Director at Meadowhall, says:
“We are proud to be able to support the British Heart Foundation on the Heart of Steel. It’s a wonderful way to recognise Sheffield’s history as the city of steel and it is a brilliant reminder of the generosity of our customers and their loved ones.”
Camilla Shelley, Fundraising Manager at the British Heart Foundation, said:

“The Heart of Steel has now raised an astounding £650,000 for the British Heart Foundation’s life saving research. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I can’t think of a more fitting way to pay tribute to that special someone!

“With each new engraving we’re able to fund even more vital research to improve the lives of people living with heart and circulatory diseases across the UK, whilst allowing our supporters to celebrate and honour their loved ones.”
