Golfers raise their clubs for Chari-Tee!

17th July 2013

A local office supplies company has put some swing into its fundraising by organising a charity golf day in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The sixth annual Universal Office Products Golf Day takes place on Friday 19 July at Hillsborough Golf Club on Worrall Road. It's the sixth year the event has been organised by the company which now has 25 teams competing for a host of prizes staff. The team are hoping to smash last year's total by raising more than £4,000 for the charity. Steve Manley, Director of Universal Office Products explains, -The work Macmillan does is fantastic and we are proud to play our part in helping them to be there for the people of Sheffield. Everybody knows someone who has been affected by cancer and this event brings the golf club in its support for Macmillan. Steve added, -This is also an excellent opportunity for our clients, suppliers, partners and team members to enjoy a great day, whilst raising money for a fantastic cause. Over the next two years Macmillan has committed to spending £2 million in South Yorkshire to develop a range of new cancer services to support patients and families affected by cancer. Money raised from the golf day will help Macmillan to fund new services in the city such as End of Life Care project Team based across Sheffield Hospitals and in care homes who will support and care for patients, plus a 1-2-1 Support Nurse who will support Colorectal and Breast Cancer patients who have been discharged following treatment. Rob Turner, fundraising manager for Sheffield added, -Cancer is now the single greatest cause of death in the UK. Over 42% of us will get cancer during our lives and almost 1 in 3 of us will die from it. The number of people being diagnosed with cancer is increasing every year, so the support we provide is needed now more than ever. We are 98% funded through donations from our supporters and put simply we simply cannot do this without the help and support of people like Steve and all the team who work so hard to put on this fantastic event to help us be there for more people affected by cancer.
