Grandmother Takes Plunge for Macmillan

A grandmother from Sheffield has raised £1,790 by doing a skydive for Macmillan Cancer Support, in memory of her father.

Julie Taylor, 53 from Woodseats, jumped from 15,000ft at Hibaldstow in Lincolnshire to raise money for the charity who looked after her father Bret Taylor from when he was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in 2011 until he passed away in 2013 at the age of 88. Miss Taylor said, "During all this time his Macmillan nurse was there to offer support to him and my mum. The care he received and the support we as a family got at such a difficult time was amazing." She said, -"I know Dad would be very proud of my achievement, he knew that I always wanted to do a skydive, and I chose to do it whilst wearing a locket with his ashes in. This was for him Julie initially set herself a target of £1,000 for the skydive, which she thought was "a little ambitious", but ended up raising much more thanks to the generosity of people at her workplace, the National Blood Service in Sheffield. Mrs Taylor said: "Many of our donors give blood because loved ones have suffered from cancer. When they saw my posters about my challenge, they gave generously as it was a cause close to their hearts." Adventurous Julie is already thinking about her next challenge, a wing walk on a plane next summer. She added, -The feeling was amazing and we took in some amazing views - I would like to do it again!
