Graysons puts its weight behind Sheffield’s artists of the future
27th April 2021
Graysons Solicitors is the brand-new sponsor of the Sheffield Young Artists Competition/Exhibition – the largest event of its kind in the UK.
The event, organised by Abbeydale Rotary, invites entries from school children aged 5 to 18 from all schools right across the city.
The Sheffield Young Artists programme, which first took place in 2005, culminates in an exhibition of art at Ponds Forge. The Lord Mayor of Sheffield opens the event and presents the awards to the winners and runners-up in each category. Currently there are nine categories.
All students with pictures on display, approximately 1200, receive certificates.
Selections of these pictures are displayed each year at Art in the Gardens in September and at The Great Sheffield Art Show in November.
Graysons, which originally formed in 1925, has a keen interest in local culture and has been the main sponsor of the city’s celebrated Art in the Gardens event for the past two years.
Peter Clark, managing partner at Graysons, said: “We’ve enjoyed a long history in Sheffield and we’re always looking for ways to put something back into the community. Sheffield Young Artists is a fantastic event that provides inspiration for hundreds of young people and a platform for the next generation of talent - we’re honoured to be a part of it.”
Sheffield Young Artists was cancelled in 2020 due to Covid restrictions – the organisers are hoping that the current lockdown and roll out of vaccinations will allow the event to go ahead later this summer.
Ken Marshall, who organises the event on behalf of the Rotary Club, said: “It is fantastic news to have Graysons as our new sponsor. It has such a keen interest in the cultural life of our city. We’re all keeping our fingers crossed that our event can go ahead this year.”
