Great Yorkshire Run success for Olmec apprentice Rob

25th September 2012

Sheffield siblings Rob and Charlotte Wait (19 and 21) are delighted to have completed the 2012 Great Yorkshire which took place with around 6000 runners in Sheffield recently.

Joining the likes of Olympian Nick McCormick and celebrities from Coronation Street and Emmerdale, as well as local Ashes to Ashes celebrity Dean Andrews, Rob and Charlotte were running for the first time and were really pleased to raise almost £200 for their chosen charities Diabetes UK and Weston Park Hospital. Rob is an apprentice at Millhouses based LED lighting specialists, Olmec Advanced Materials/Surelight.com, where he has worked for around 18 months.  He is working towards becoming an electrical engineer and is looking forward to contributing to the continued success of the growing Sheffield company. Paul Lancaster, managing director at Olmec/Surelight, who sponsored Rob and Charlotte (a student nurse) said -I am really delighted that our young staff are getting involved with these events, not only for their own development and enjoyment of course, but also to get involved in the community and help such worth-while charities.  I am proud of Rob's achievement and more than happy to have helped both of them to achieve their goal this year. Running during the recent unexpected heat wave cannot have been easy, but Rob and Charlotte achieved very respectable times of 1 hour and 1 hour 15 mins. respectively.  Rob said -I am really pleased with my result, especially as it was my first attempt at such a race.  I run for pleasure and to keep fit but haven't done anything like this before.  I have definitely got the bug though and will be looking to do more next year, including the Great North Run hopefully.  I will certainly increase my training now and will be looking to improve my times.  I would like to thank Paul for his sponsorship and his support which definitely helped spur me on!
