Half term family fun at Magna

19th May 2015

Visitors to Magna over the half term holidays will be soaking up the fun as the popular Aqua-Tek outdoor water play park re-opens for the summer.

Aqua-Tek offers water-based activities for youngsters, with hidden spray, mist and jets of water to get them squealing with excitement. In addition the Magna visitor attraction has a wide range of 'dry land' workshops and tours for all the family running throughout half term from 23rd 31st May. If the sun shines, children will be able to explore the Sci-Tek adventure play area which features trampoline nets, spinning bowls, tilted roundabouts, twisted slides as well as rockets and castles. Or they can take part in a -It's a Rubbish Adventure workshop, daily between Monday 25th and Friday 29th May, which focuses on the science and engineering used to sort, separate and recycle all the useful stuff that people throw into their black bins. There will also be regular steel tours where families can take a guided tour with an ex-steel worker and find out about the history and heritage of the old Templeborough steelworks. Or they can watch a forge demonstration to see a blacksmith at work and learn how steel was made. Children can also pop into the Science Busking Corner and have fun with a range of balloon experiments or take the Smelly Dinosaur Challenge. Stuart Ballard, education director at Magna, said: -Parents are always looking for things to do with the family in the holidays. -We offer a range of activities which are fun-based but also get them interested in the world of science our Sci-Tek playground has been specially designed to let children of all ages play, explore and learn. -Aqua-Tek and Sci-Tek together form one of Europe's largest outdoor playgrounds but make sure you bring a towel and a change of clothes for the kids as they're bound to get drenched. Magna, which is housed in the former Templeborough steelworks, has more than 100 hands-on exhibits designed to explore the four elements of air, water, earth and fire. It also hosts regular school trips and hosts business and social events. Admission charges for Magna apply.
