Hallam student creates design for Triple Point Brewing

12th October 2023

Bryony Finnigan, an illustration student at Sheffield Hallam University, has created a new limited-edition design for Triple Point Brewing’s Debut.

The design, inspired by Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, was picked by the team at Triple Point after they challenged Hallam students to rebrand their Debut IPA and held an exhibition of the work.

In their brief, Triple Point asked Illustration students to focus on the name Debut. On the inspiration behind her design, Bryony said:

“During my studies at Hallam I learnt many tricks for developing unique ideas, word association being one of them. The word Debut can be associated with birth and that, combined with my previous fine art studies, led me to revisit the Birth of Venus – one of the world’s most infamous examples of a debut.

“I also like to add a twist and wit to my illustrations, so my design is a re-imagined version of the Birth of Venus, in which she is showering herself in pale ale.”

The exhibition was the first in a new partnership between Sheffield Hallam’s Department of Art and Design and Triple Point Brewing, with the design competition and exhibition becoming an annual event.

George Brook, co-founder of Triple Point Brewing, said:

“This was one of the most exciting projects we’ve ever done. We love supporting local art, and it was great to see the talent coming out of the university. There were so many amazing entries, but Bryony smashed it - we can’t wait for next year's competition!”

Bryony said:

“It feels amazing to have won the competition and to know that design now exists as something physical that someone can purchase and admire. I hope it brings an element of colour and cheer to those who get to see it. As an illustrator at the start of their career, this is a huge opportunity and one which I am extremely grateful for.

“The team at Triple Point have been extremely supportive and accommodating and I feel very privileged to have been working with the team to create something really cool together.”
