Hallam Vice-Chancellor re-appointed as TEF Chair

5th February 2018

Professor Chris Husbands, Vice-Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University, has been re-appointed as the Chair of the Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF) until August 2021.

The TEF was introduced in 2016 to ensure excellent teaching and student job prospects are at the heart of Higher Education. The framework, places the significance of teaching on a par with research and puts clear information into the hands of students so they know where teaching is best and what benefits they can expect to gain from their courses. This year, the Office for Students (OfS) board has decided to adopt the Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF). As a result, the OfS will take responsibility for the assessment of this year's TEF applications in line with the already published TEF Specification. The decision will allow the OfS to continue to build on the success of the first full year of TEF ratings and prepare for the implementation of subject-level TEF. Professor Chris Husbands, said: "I am delighted to have been re-appointed as chair of the Government's Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) panel. "The TEF recognises and rewards excellent learning and teaching in higher education. It builds on the existing high standards of learning and teaching in universities, and I hope that it provides positive outcomes for all students, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds. I've always been passionate about the importance of high quality teaching, and look forward to continuing to work with the Government and the sector to secure the benefits which TEF can bring."
