Heroic bag design by Bluebell Wood children

A Rotherham schoolgirl is one of eight children whose artwork is taking pride of place on a new range of eco-friendly shopping bags for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.

Ten-year-old Fathima Nadeem's female Superhero stands with nine other characters on the cotton canvas 'Steel City Superhero' tote bag, produced by BIDBI and now on sale at Bluebell Wood's website and Bluebell Wood shops across the region. Sheffield-based BIDBI have produced the environmentally-friendly tote bags to help raise funds for Bluebell Wood as part of this year's Master Cutler's Challenge. BIDBI is one of many companies and community groups taking part in the Challenge, which aims to raise as much as possible for the charity that supports children and young adults with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions. Fathima, her 14-year-old brother Ibraheem and their family, who live in Clifton, are supported by South Yorkshire's only children's hospice. Fathima submitted her design after a sibling support worker from the charity told her they were looking for Superhero ideas for the new bag. Fathima's mum Taz said: -Fathima often meets Amy, a sibling support worker from Bluebell Wood, who told her about the design challenge. She was determined to see her artwork on the bag and was really chuffed and proud of herself when she found out it was going to be used. She had worked really hard on it, and didn't let her work out of sight until she'd handed it over to Bluebell Wood. Marc, Finance Director, BIDBI, said: -It is a pleasure to be helping Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice. The work they do is indispensable in helping families at their toughest times. Supporting local organisations is at the forefront of our business, and being in a position to be able to assist in this way is second nature to us here at BIDBI. Funds raised by the cotton canvas bags, which are an eco-friendly, fairly traded alternative to plastic carrier bags, will help Bluebell Wood provide services such as music therapy, counselling, sibling support groups and end of life treatment and care, to families across the region.
