High flying zip wire raises cash for cancer
9th December 2014
By Nicola Birch Three high-flyers from Armadillo Self Storage in Sheffield zip-wired at dizzying heights across the 250 metres wide Manchester Canal to raise £380 for Macmillan Cancer Support Research.
Daniel Green (27), of Whiston, Ben Wolf (44), of North Anston, and Sarah Travis (29), of Westfield, launched themselves off The Shard at The Imperial War Museum. It was a nerve-wracking experience, as Daniel explains, -It was really, really high up. I was very nervous, more so than Ben and Sarah. But once I got over that, I enjoyed it and would definitely do something like this again. The challenge was a personal one for Daniel and Ben who have both had family members affected by the disease. Ben said, -The first time I remember cancer being mentioned was on my fourth birthday. We got a call from the hospital to tell us that my grandma had just passed away. -At the time I didn't really understand what it meant, just that there was someone who I loved suddenly missing and the devastating affect it had on my mother. So when this opportunity came about, I was in no doubt that I wanted to do it to support the amazing work Macmillan do. Twenty thousand people have done the zip-wire challenge so far...and the event will return in 2015. Fundraising manager for Macmillan in Sheffield and Chesterfield Rob Turner said: -Macmillan relies almost entirely on donations from the public to fund its services and thanks to the support we can be there for more people affected by cancer.
