Historic Hamlet celebrates 50th anniversary

This year is a momentous year for Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet. It will mark the 50th anniversary of this internationally significant site being open to the public as a heritage museum.
For fifty wonderful years, Abbeydale has welcomed visitors to discover, connect with and experience life at an 18th century scythe and steelworks – inviting audiences to be immersed in centuries of industrial innovation.
Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust will use this year to celebrate everything that makes Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet special to so many people. Visitors can look forward to a programme of special event days, new exhibitions and talks.
Highlights include:
• Amazing Abbeydale, 9/10 May – a weekend of traditional crafts and skills with family friendly have-a-go activities, music, BBQ and more.
• Blacksmith ‘Forge In’ weekend, August bank holiday weekend – in partnership with the British Artist Blacksmiths Association.
• Golden Easter Egg Hunt.
• A new exhibition - Golden Abbeydale: A story 50 years in the making
• New visitor trails.
• Heritage Talks Programme.
• Hamlet of Horrors family Halloween event.
• Abbeydale at Christmas.
