hlw Keeble Hawson head of family law thanks lawyers for fundraising boost

24th November 2016

A vibrant South Yorkshire Resolution dinner has raised over £1,793 for Doncaster Rape and Sex Abuse Counselling Service, which supports children and adult victims of sexual and domestic violence.

Attendees at the event at the Royal Victoria Holiday Inn on 18 November 2016, included Resolution's national chair, Nigel Shepherd, together with an array of judges, barristers, QCs and family solicitors from across Derbyshire, South Yorkshire, Leeds and London. The South Yorkshire group of Resolution, a member-based organisation of family lawyers and other professionals in England and Wales who are committed to the constructive resolution of family disputes, was founded 30 years ago. Vanessa Fox, chair of South Yorkshire Resolution and head of family law at hlw Keeble Hawson, highlighted the vital work of groups like DRASACS who support victims of rape and sexual abuse. She presented stark statistics showing that almost 25 per cent of women experience sexual assault as an adult with one in five girls and one in ten boys being subjected to some sort of sexual abuse. Said Vanessa: -The fundraiser was a vital feature of the evening, which followed our annual general meeting. As an organisation that is fundamentally involved in major social issues, such as the consequences of the removal of Legal Aid for most family law and divorce matters, we used this event to try and support the help which this charity provides to society's most vulnerable. We thank everyone who contributed on the night and those who provided prizes for the auction and raffle. Nigel Shepherd addressed those present on Resolution's ongoing campaigns to introduce a no fault divorce law and to implement legal protection for cohabiting couples.
