Howells funds short breaks for Bluebell Wood families

6th March 2018

A generous donation by Howells Solicitors will help fund more short respite breaks for families supported by Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.

The legal firm has given £3000 to South Yorkshire's only children's hospice, which will fund members of the care team to look after children and young adults in their own homes so that their parents and other carers can have short breaks. Howells, which has three offices, in Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley, is a member of Bluebell Wood's 365 Business Club and has supported the charity since 2016. Although Bluebell Wood is the charity of the year for the firm's Rotherham office, all three offices are supporting the fundraising, with an incredible 60 staff, family and friends due to take part in Bluebell Wood's Colour Dash at Rother Valley Country Park on 28 April this year. The many fundraising activities by Howells for Bluebell Wood have included raffles, chocolate explosions, cake-bakes, fill a bag appeal for the charity shops and promoting Bluebell Wood at the Rotherham Show and other events. Sharon Lockwood, Howells partner, said: -Bluebell Wood is an amazing charity that does so much, not just for children but for their whole families. There is a misconception that hospices are sad and gloomy places but Bluebell Wood is nothing like that. It is a wonderful place with a positive atmosphere, centred around providing support and building happy memories. -We quickly noticed through our fundraising efforts out and about just how well Bluebell Wood is loved by the local community, and rightly so. Howells is proud and privileged to support Bluebell Wood and it's our pleasure to be able to contribute to the support of respite short breaks. We know just how important Bluebell Wood is for families, allowing them much needed time together to enjoy each other's company and create lasting happy memories. Rachael Dawes, Corporate Fundraising Manager, Bluebell Wood, said: -Our care team is currently increasing the number of respite short breaks in family homes, as well as respite stays at the hospice. It allows us to give our families the support they need in the way they want it. We are incredibly grateful to Howells for all their support over the last three years, and for this wonderful donation. It is making a huge difference to our families, helping them to create special memories, whether they have days, months or years left together.
