HS2 or HS3?

21st November 2014

What is important to Sheffield is that Sheffield, Leeds and Manchester are really well connected and they can then work more as a single economic entity in an internationally competitive world.

We then need good connections between this triangle with the ports at Humberside and Liverpool to enable our businesses to trade with the world. We support HS2 with a station in Sheffield because of capacity and connectivity with Europe (if HS2 and HS1 are connected). The reduced journey times are welcome but not, in our opinion the main benefit. World class road and rail links to Manchester are probably more important to us than HS3 albeit we refer back to the previous statement that good links between Sheffield, Manchester and Leeds are a real necessity.
