It runs in the family

Two South Yorkshire brothers have taken on running challenges to raise vital funds for Cavendish Cancer Care.

Karl and Kurt Lindley have raised almost £3000 by taking part in the London Marathon and Comrades Ultra Marathon in South Africa. They were inspired to do this because of the support their family received while facing a cancer diagnosis. Cavendish Cancer Care is a local Sheffield charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for people living with cancer in South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. We believe no one should face cancer alone, so we provide emotional support through counselling and complementary therapies to the patient, their carer and their children. Our services are provided free of charge and we rely on the donations from supporters and help from volunteers to continue our work. We provide the support that local families deserve. Kurt, from Warmsworth, took part in the Comrades Ultimate Marathon in South Africa on May 31st. The race, which is over twice the length of the London Marathon, took Kurt a whopping 12 hours. Kurt said: -The Cavendish Centre's support never goes away. You don't need to see them to know that they're there. Without them, we wouldn't be the people we are today. His brother Karl, from Barnsley, also chose to support the charity by running the London Marathon, in May, raising over £1600 including money that his employers at Legal and General very kindly gave in matched funding. Karl said that running the marathon was one of the most positive things he had ever done, and was delighted when his family surprised him with a celebration banner waved as his train home passed through Doncaster. Between them, the two brothers have raised an incredible amount for Cavendish. If you are inspired by their story, Cavendish Cancer Care is organising its very own 5 and 10k race. The 'Sheffield Together' run, which takes place in Ecclesall Woods on November 15th, is open to runners of all abilities. Registration is open now at www.cavcare.org.uk/SheffieldTogether.
