JCI Sheffield up for Two European Awards

9th June 2014

Members of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Sheffield will be jetting off to a glittering Awards Ceremony in Malta on 11th June, as part of their 4 day European Conference, bringing together Chambers from across the continent.

JCI Sheffield has been successfully nominated in two European Award categories.  The first is for the Best Local Economic Development Plan for the RISE Sheffield Project, where they supported an inspirational city wide initiative to increase graduate employment in small and medium sized enterprises.  The second award category is for the Most Outstanding Member in Europe, where Mark Smith (2014 JCI Sheffield Deputy President) has been nominated for his exceptional achievements over the last year. Mark Smith said; "I felt over the moon to win the most outstanding JCI member in the UK last year and to be put forward for this award at European level is just amazing! I love all the opportunities JCI has given me since joining 2 years ago - from the people I've met, the fantastic training I've been on and also having the chance to deliver training too! My role as Director of Operations and Strategy at Safe@Last, a children's charity in South Yorkshire, complements the volunteering strategy associated with JCI Sheffield's Community Projects.  I just love getting involved locally, at a regional level and nationally. It would be an absolute honour to win this award".  JCI Sheffield have a bumper list of events and opportunities on our schedule for the rest of 2014, allowing young people between 18 and 40 to get involved and to -Be Better. The Extempore -Off the Cuff Public Speaking training on 19 June at the Holiday Inn Express, is already booking up fast.  Attendees will never be lost for words again after this interactive training session, which is a light-hearted insight into the art of public speaking, all in readiness for the JCI Yorkshire Regional heats in July.  Book online at www.jcisheffield.org.uk/events
