Local logistics firm to make waves in charity raft race

9th September 2015

Sheffield logistics firm DBL Logistics will take part in the annual Kelham Island Raft Regatta in aid of local charity Roundabout.

The race, which will take place on Saturday 19 September, will pit tens of local businesses and local groups against each other in four-person rafts in a race down the River Don between Rutland Road and Nursery Street. DBL team members Earl Robinson, Carola Logan, Stephen Goodwin and Dennis Hindmarsh will throw themselves in at the deep end and compete to raise money for Roundabout, a local charity which supports homeless people aged 16-25, offering shelter and teaching life skills. A specially-created DBL Logistics raft has been developed to look like one of the company's distribution HGVs, and opportunities for sponsorship and donations to the team are available. Earl Robinson, sales director at DBL Logistics, said: -We pride ourselves on trying to give as much back to the local community as possible and taking part in fundraising events such as this is just one way we can do this. -The Sheffield Raft Regatta is a fantastic way of both participating in a fun activity for staff and raising funds for Roundabout; a Sheffield youth housing charity which we're proud to support. The Raft Regatta, which is organised by Sheffield City Kayak Club, welcomes family, friends and spectators to cheer on - or throw flour bombs at - the contestants as they make their way down the river. Tony Canning, chairman at Sheffield City Kayak Club, said: -The Raft Regatta is an event which we look forward to every year. There are always some great raft designs, which tend to get covered in flour bombs by spectators! -The day is all about having fun and will include a prize-giving ceremony with an award handed out to the team which finishes third while singing a song, a prize for the best decorated raft and one for the driest and most flour-covered crew. -First over the line will only win applause unless they meet the prize criteria!
