Logistics firm MD sleeps rough to raise hundreds for homelessness charity
28th November 2016
The managing director of a leading logistics firm raised hundreds of pounds for a South Yorkshire homelessness charity when he slept rough for a night.
David Clarkson, Managing Director of DBL Logistics, raised £695 for Roundabout Sheffield after taking part in the charity's Sleep Out at CADS Works in the Smithfields area of Sheffield city centre. It was the third time in the last 12 months that that DBL Logistics has taken part in a Sleep Out event organised by Roundabout, after Sales Director Earl Robinson's participation in a similar event earlier this year and MD David's participation in last year's November Sleep Out. The Sleep Out featured food, music and entertainment, and was hosted by charity patron Paulette Edwards, of BBC Radio Sheffield. It raised more than £9,000 in total. Roundabout Sheffield is a long-standing beneficiary of fundraising efforts by DBL Logistics, with several of the firm's team raising thousands of pounds over the course of a partnership spanning several years to assist the charity, which supports 150 young people in Sheffield each day who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. David Clarkson said: -This was the latest in a long line of events in which we've proudly supported Roundabout, a charity crucial to the local community. -It's not just about fundraising youth homelessness in Sheffield is a huge issue, and Roundabout work tirelessly every day to combat it. So, as well as raising as much money as possible, we're also raising awareness of this fantastic cause. -Sleeping rough is tough, and although this no doubt gives you an insight into how hard life on the streets is, it's nothing compared to the real thing. We need to keep supporting brilliant charities like Roundabout to ensure it doesn't become a reality for young people in Sheffield. Ruth Gage, Fundraising and Communications Manager at Roundabout, said: -We're extremely pleased with how well this year's event went and we're over the moon with how much was raised. -DBL Logistics raise hundreds for us every time they take part in our sleep out events and they've raised thousands over the last few years. We're extremely grateful for their support, as every penny raised for us makes a difference to the young people we support.
