Lord Mayor brews up support for Sheffield charities
12th April 2018
On Thursday 12 April, the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Anne Murphy, is taking charge of the kettle to brew up support for five incredible local charities.
The event is being held in the Lord Mayor's Parlour to kick-start 'The Lord Mayor's Mash Challenge', a city-wide fundraising campaign which aims to get everyone mashing on Friday 20 April, the day before National Tea Day. Among those invited to enjoy a 'reyt gud brew-up' courtesy of the Lord Mayor are staff from the Town Hall and celebrities from the world of snooker, who are in Sheffield ahead of the World Snooker Championships. Taking to the kettle alongside the Lord Mayor will be members of Sheffield Young Carers' Action Group, who helped to create the campaign, and representatives from the Lord Mayor's five chosen charities: Artworks Sheffield, Dementia Action Alliance, Sheffield Hospitals Charity, Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind and Sheffield Young Carers. Speaking about the event, the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Anne Murphy, said: -I can't wait to launch the Mash Challenge on Thursday, which will raise vital awareness and funding for five amazing local charities who work tirelessly to support some of our city's most vulnerable children, young people and adults. -Supporting the campaign couldn't be easier: all you really need to do is put the kettle on and get mashing! My favourite part is probably the 'Reyt Royal Sheffield Tea Chart' which Sheffield Young Carers' brilliant Action Group designed so that you can challenge someone to make you the perfect Sheffield cuppa. Dua'a and Heather from Sheffield Young Carers' Action Group said, -It was great making funny names for the tea chart, like 'Sheffield Sun Tan' and 'Full Mon-tea'. Hopefully the campaign will raise money and bring more awareness. If you would like to join the Lord Mayor and take the Mash Challenge on Friday 20 April, it's as easy as one, two, tea Ask your boss to block out a couple of hours for mashing on Friday 20 April. Or if you can't persuade the boss, how about another tea-loving or perhaps tea-shy! colleague? For a small donation (we'd suggest £1), challenge them to make you the perfect cuppa, using our 'Reyt Royal Sheffield Tea Chart' as a guide. Post a picture of your brew or if it's a rare sight, your boss making it on Twitter, including the handle @mayorsconsort and the 'mashtag' #mashchallenge. (You can rate your brew too using the mashtag #ratemybrew.) All you need to do then is donate what you've raised at www.gofundme.com/mashchallenge and sit back, relax and enjoy your brew safe in the knowledge that you're supporting some brilliant Sheffield charities!
