Magna teams up with charity to promote first aid amongst families

24th August 2016

Magna has teamed up with first aid charity St John Ambulance to promote lifesaving skills for families.

St John Ambulance, who provide first aid training across the country, have chosen the Rotherham visitor attraction to host free live demonstrations of lifesaving skills each day between Thursday 1st and Sunday 4th September. They will take place in the venue's Big Hall, between 10am and 4pm. The demonstrations at Magna form part of Save a Life September (SALS), an annual campaign by St John Ambulance to teach lifesaving skills to members of the public and raise awareness of the importance of first aid. They will be carried out by volunteers and will show techniques to deal with choking, severe bleeding and heart attacks, plus guidance on the recovery position and CPR. Free pocket-sized first aid guides will be available for people to carry in case of an emergency, and all visitors to Magna will be able to watch and join in throughout the day - without the need to book. John Silker, chief executive of Magna, said: -First aid is an important life skill so we're delighted to team up with St. John Ambulance to host these demonstrations. We look forward to welcoming lots of families to Magna to enjoy this, and everything else we have to offer, before the new school term begins. David Nicklen, Training and Community Projects Manager at St John Ambulance, said: -By holding free first aid demonstrations across the country, including at Magna, we want to reach as many people as possible, so that more people are equipped with the skills to save a life. Anyone who needs first aid should get it and the more of us that can help in an emergency, the better. Magna, which is housed in the former Templeborough steelworks near junction 34 of the M1, is an award-winning visitor attraction and hosts regular school visits. As well as organising its own events, the venue hosts corporate events for brands including Mercedes, Royal Mail, Kia Motors and HSBC.
