Mechan Apprentices on Track for Career Success

Sheffield heavy lifting specialist, Mechan, is raising the professional prospects of two local youngsters who have joined the firm as apprentices.

Mechan is welcoming Siani Turner and Robert Hoyland to the team, to support its office and factory operations respectively. Siani is working with Mechan's sales team, which liaises with customers across the globe, to learn more about the firm's portfolio of rail depot handling products and cranes. During her three year apprenticeship, she will be studying for a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level three in customer service, via an online distance learning programme. Factory and assembly apprentice, Robert Hoyland, joins Mechan to learn more about the fabrication, mechanical and electrical construction of the firm's lifting equipment. His apprenticeship will comprise periods of work, followed by blocks of fulltime study at Brinsworth Academy of Engineering in Rotherham, to gain an NVQ level three in maintenance that covers mechanics, electrics and pneumatics. Richard Carr, Mechan's managing director, said: -Siani and Robert have settled easily into their roles and we are very pleased with their progress so far. Both enjoy working in a busy commercial environment and are showing great aptitude for their roles. They have an eagerness to learn, academically and practically, and are on course to complete their initial studies in the minimum timeframe. We have every confidence they will develop into valued, productive members of our team.
