Mechan gets Green Seal of Approval
15th March 2013
Sheffield-based rail depot equipment specialist, Mechan, has received official endorsement of its first class environmental practises.
Mechan has been awarded the ISO 14001 standard by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance, following an independent assessment of its environmental management systems. The standard recognises the design, manufacture, installation and servicing of Mechan's lifting and handling equipment is conducted within an effective environmental framework and provides assurance that the firm is taking steps to measure and improve its carbon footprint. Keith Lambert, Mechan's quality, health and safety and environmental manager, has overseen the accreditation process. He said: -By implementing greener business practises, we are not only lowering our consumption of energy and materials, but also making savings on the cost of waste management and distribution. -Reaching the exacting ISO standard has been a challenge for all areas of the business, yet as increasing numbers of clients expect suppliers to meet this benchmark, we believe the new business opportunities it will provide are worth the hard work. Following its ISO 14001 success, Mechan is aiming to add ISO 18001 to its list of accolades, which recognises the quality of its health and safety systems. The firm's final audit will take place in April.
