Meet UTC Sheffield Staff

13th June 2013

A free taster event is being held next week for young people interested in a Year 10 place at the brand new University Technical College Sheffield, the first of its kind in Yorkshire.

The £9.9 million UTC Sheffield will open on Shoreham Street this September and specialise in academic and technical qualifications for the creative and digital media, and advanced engineering and manufacturing industries. Young people, parents and teachers will have the chance to meet UTC Sheffield staff on Tuesday June 18th from 6pm to 8pm at the Creative Lounge, The Workstation, Sheffield. There will be careers information, opportunities to try hands on activities and workshops, and the chance to find out more about routes into employment and university. The UTC is sponsored by The Sheffield College with Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Industry as co-sponsors. More than 40 local and regional employers are actively involved in supporting UTC Sheffield by helping to shape the curriculum and its content. The new facility, for 14 to 19-year-olds, will be fitted with £1 million of specialist equipment including engineering mini factories, high tech design and sound studios, and a rooftop multi sports pitch. GCSEs and A-levels will be offered alongside specialist vocational diploma courses. To book a free place at the event go to www.utcsheffield.org.uk/events. To apply for a course place online go to the UTC Sheffield website. You can also call 0114 2602327.
