Mercury promote police drive safely Christmas campaign

16th December 2013

Mercury, Sheffield's premier taxi company has just released their Christmas safety video to encourage the city's tens of thousands of revellers to stay safe this Christmas.

Their new video, made by Sheffield-based Chic Media, is the latest example of Mercury Taxis' campaign to raise awareness of safety issues after their last student safety video proved controversial, provoking lively debate in the city's media. To the popular 70s Wizzard hit, -I wish it could be Christmas every day, the video soundtrack features a growing Christmas tree of drinks getting spilled during a high speed car crash. Earlier this year, Dermot Griffiths- Mercury's general manager- was given a Superintendent's Commendation Award by South Yorkshire Police in recognition of his work to support the production of the Sheffield taxi drivers' community safety handbook. Dermot said, -We are always committed to helping the police to make Sheffield a safer place for everyone. That's why we are keeping our normal fares anywhere at just £2 extra over Christmas and the New Year period to promote the message 'enjoy Christmas Spirit safely.' Like the Police always say: if you're drinking, just get a taxi. The drink safely video can be seen on Mercury's own You Tube channel at http://www.youtube.com/mercurytaxis Contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 The £2 extra charge starts from 6pm on December 24th and runs until 6am on December 27th and then re-commences on December 31st at 6pm and runs until January 2nd at 6am. There are no hidden extra charges or conditions with this offer and it also includes all airport and distance work.
