Michelin Star chef returns to host pop-up restaurant at Hallam

22nd January 2018

Max Fischer, the founder of Michelin Star restaurant Fischer's at Baslow Hall, is returning to Sheffield Hallam University to host a pop-up restaurant following a successful maiden event last year.

Max, whose restaurant has held a Michelin Star since 1994, will again host 'A Taste of Fischer's' at the University's Hallam View restaurant. The event will be staffed in the kitchen and front of house by Sheffield Hallam students studying hospitality business management. The menu will showcase a selection of Max's classic dishes cooked by the students under the award-winning chef's watchful eye throughout the four-night spell from Tuesday 20 to Friday 23 February. James Ellerby, senior lecturer in hospitality business management, has organised the event alongside head of catering Jon Broadhurst. James said: "We're thrilled to be hosting this event at the University for the second year running. The popularity and success of last year's event is a testament to Max and the students' hard work and we can't wait to run the restaurant for four consecutive nights. "Max is passionate about students and the development of new talent and we continue to work closely with him. "This is an excellent opportunity for our students to work with a chef of Max's calibre and hopefully learn a huge amount from the experience which will be even more realistic and challenging than last year's event." Max, who received an honorary doctorate from Sheffield Hallam in 2013, is widely admired for his work showcasing the region as a food destination and championing local and home-grown produce. Max said: "I am delighted to be returning to Sheffield Hallam to cook with the students this February. It is hugely rewarding and great fun to be able to work collaboratively with the next generation of chefs in the area." There will be a three course menu with three choices per course priced at £40 per person. Please visit the website to view the menu. Tables can be booked from 6.30pm to 8pm on each of the four nights by calling 0114 2253871 or by email h.dodd@shu.ac.uk.
