Michelin Star chef to host pop-up restaurant at Hallam

22nd February 2017

Max Fischer, the founder of Michelin Star restaurant Fischer's at Baslow Hall, is set to host a pop-up restaurant staffed by students at Sheffield Hallam University.

Max, whose restaurant has held a Michelin Star since 1994, will host 'A Taste of Fischer's' at the University's Hallam View restaurant on Thursday 30 March. The event will be staffed in the kitchen and front of house by 15 Sheffield Hallam students studying hospitality business management. The menu will showcase a selection of Max's classic dishes cooked by the students under the award-winning chef's watchful eye. James Ellerby, senior lecturer in hospitality business management who organised the event, said: "We're thrilled to be hosting this event at the University. The people of Sheffield will be able to sample a simplified version of Max's cooking for a fraction of the cost. "Max is passionate about students and the development of new talent and has been very supportive of the idea. "This is an excellent opportunity for our students to work with a chef of Max's calibre and hopefully learn a huge amount from the experience. "If the event is successful we will look to host a few events a year with different chefs from the region." Max, who received an honorary doctorate from Sheffield Hallam in 2013, is widely admired for his work showcasing the region as a food destination and championing local and home-grown produce. And his personal commitment to the importance of future generations has seen many young people including several Sheffield Hallam alumni enjoy excellent starts to their careers at Fischer's. Max Fischer said: "I believe passionately in the importance of hands-on training and experience in any form of management, but especially within the hospitality industry. I hope that working alongside me will inspire the students, and give them the confidence to practice and learn these essential practical skills." There will be a five course set menu with matched wines priced at £45. To see the menu visit the website and to book a place at the pop-up restaurant call 0114 2253871. A deposit of £10 per person is required when booking. Featured image: (Pictured L-R) Jon Broadhurst, Head of Catering Services, Max Fischer and James Ellerby.
