More than just vacuums - Killis still innovating and growing after 55 years

Many of you will be familiar with the T L Killis shop on the corner of Glossop Road, but only a few of you know the story about the brand and it's popularity in the UK cleaning market.

Family run since 1964, Killis are one of the UK's largest, cleaning suppliers and continually strive to offer the latest in innovative cleaning equipment. The business was founded by self-renowned 'King of clean' Mr Tibor Killi, after he moved to the UK from Hungary, starting as a vacuum cleaner retailer, selling and servicing machines. The original, above mentioned shop, was opened on 286 Glossop Road 55 years' ago, and is proudly still trading. In 1992 he expanded the portfolio to include a further unit at Orgreave Road, Handsworth which now houses one of the largest showrooms of cleaning machines in the UK. Over the years, the company has expanded, now offering janitorial products, floor polishers and window cleaning machines among others and stocks over 3,000 products, ranging from sponges to ride on industrial scrubber dryers. Cut to the present day and Killis are well-known for bringing the latest innovations to the cleaning industry, making cleaning easier and more efficient. They are the sole UK distributor of the popular, innovative I-team range, providing everything you needed for a domestic or commercial deep-clean. The jewel in the crown is the successful I-mop, which combines the flexibility of a floor mop with the power and speed of an industrial scrubber dryer, allowing any flooring to be cleaned. Since bringing these to the UK in 2014, Killis have sold over 7,000 units to the health, education, care home and commercial cleaning sector as well as to domestic end users. With environmental and green issues at the forefront of customers minds, Killis have introduced a chemical-free approach to cleaning with the Canadian brand Tersano. This high-capacity cleaning system, turns ordinary tap water into SAO (Stabilized Aqueous Ozone) a powerful cleaning agent that breaks down dirt, grime and odours and is more effective than bleach. This has proved particularly popular in local schools, restaurants, police stations, government buildings and even football stadiums! Since being launched by my Father in 1964, we have grown from a vacuum retailer to a one stop solution for any cleaning products. After seeing the changes within the cleaning sector, we have placed a key focus on innovation becoming the go-to company for cleaning supplies and an authority in the UK floor cleaning and janitorial world Killis have ambitious plans over the next 12 months including a revamped website, which is due to be launched within the next month. This will allow more flexibility for online ordering as well as the opportunity for customers to log in and view past orders. In addition, planning permission has now been granted on a purpose built, state of the art new building across the road from the Handsworth base, on the site of the old Asda buildings. This new 35,000 square foot premises will house all operations of the business, including a warehouse, an even larger showroom, trade counter and training academy. Building is due to commence within the next three months and should hopefully be open for use by April next year.
