Multi-million pound refurbishment nears completion

16th September 2015

The multi-million pound refurbishment of the gym at one of Sheffield's biggest leisure centres is soon set to open its doors to the public.

Work on the state-of-the-art gym and brand new changing facilities at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre is nearing completion, and CGI images have been released to showcase how the transformation will look. The gym at Ponds Forge, which is expected to be completed by the end of September, is being kitted out with the latest fitness equipment and its new spinning studio will make it one of the first gyms in the country with Technogym bikes. The current Fitness Unlimited gym is being expanded to make space for the new kit and enable more people to exercise thanks to a major investment by SCT and Sheffield City Council. It will be leading in ultra-modern technology with a Wellness System and MyWellness Cloud equipment to track fitness development, Technogym apparatus and the dynamic, pressure-sensitive lighting and sound Prama system which will bring the gym's floors and walls to life to create an energetic and motivating atmosphere. The free weights area is also being expanded and there will be a large multi-functional zone in the gym's centre designed to make the space more flexible. Team, competition pool, and members changing areas are being re-fitted with new showers and lockers, with this area set to reopen in November. The latter will also have a spa with sauna and steam room. The redevelopment is being supported by Sheffield City Council. Steve Brailey, chief executive of Sheffield City Trust, which operates Ponds Forge, said: -We are excited to be nearing the end of the redevelopment works to Ponds Forge so the people of Sheffield can have access to state-of-the-art facilities to help improve their health and fitness. -It is our main goal as an organisation to get more people more active, more often, and we are committed to making our venues accessible for all members of the community. The major investment of Ponds Forge will help to ensure we achieve this. For more information about Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, visit: www.sivltd.com/ponds_forge.
