National awards hat trick for Fitness Unlimited gyms

3rd October 2014

Three Sheffield gyms run by Fitness Unlimited have been voted as some of the best in the UK by the members who use them.

The gyms at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield (EIS Sheffield), Springs Leisure Centre and Hillsborough Leisure Centre made the top three at the national Member's Choice Health Club Awards 2014. In the Yorkshire and Humber category, EIS Sheffield took top spot, Springs came in second place and Hillsborough was awarded bronze, beating off competition from a number of other large national organisations. Customer votes had also shortlisted three more Fitness Unlimited gyms for the award finals - Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre, Concord Sports Centre and Ponds Forge International Sports Centre. Fitness Unlimited is a local health and fitness scheme operated by SIV on behalf of the charity Sheffield City Trust (SCT). Steve Brailey, chief executive of SCT and SIV, said: -This is fantastic news and recognition of our long-term commitment to improving the health and well-being of Sheffield people. -Importantly, all the votes in the Member's Choice Health Club Awards are cast by customers in an anonymous survey and the results highlight the quality of facilities, levels of customer service and value for money we offer. It comes after SIV was shortlisted for the coveted Leisure Centre Operator of the Year at the Flame Awards 2014. Steve added: -As one of the only city operators to make the national finals alongside large companies with hundreds of UK-wide gyms, it shows we're delivering national standards locally for the people of Sheffield. SIV and SCT reinvest all revenue generated back into programmes and facilities in the city and have recently carried out major expansion and refurbishment projects at EIS Sheffield and Concord Sports Centre. Fitness Unlimited offers access to seven gyms, eight swimming pools, a 200m running track, more than 250 weekly fitness classes, saunas, steam rooms and a Jacuzzi.
