National Series of Careers and Training Events for British Veterans to Stop Off at Hillsborough Stadium

2nd March 2016

The UK's leading careers portal for British Veterans, Cross Deck, has teamed up with Sheffield Wednesday Football Club to bring their national series of careers & training events to the city on Wednesday 16 March 2016.

'Step Into Civvy Street, Sheffield' will see a host of employers, training providers and franchise companies looking to connect with men and women with military backgrounds. Increasingly employers in the area appreciate the skills and discipline gained in the armed forces, and understand how this pool of talent can bring real benefits to a workforce. This National programme of Careers events for Forces leavers will take place in Exeter, Liverpool, Portsmouth and, of course, Sheffield. Alongside the exhibitors, those attending will have the opportunity to benefit from advice from recruitment and HR specialists and to hear from a number of guest speakers. Eager to work with Cross Deck to bring the event to the city, Spencer Taylor of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, and lead on the club's Community Programme, is sure that Step Into Civvy Street is a great thing for the North West. -We're all really excited to be working with Cross Deck on this project. It's a great opportunity for us to get involved with something that we feel is so important, not just for the military veterans, but also for the employers in our area. We do a lot of work with local schools and charities, but we're always looking for ways to support the Armed Forces. We see this as a great opportunity for us, and for local companies, to support the men and women that have served our country. Although Sheffield marks the launch of the series for 2016, it's not the first time Cross Deck has held an event like this. A successful pilot event was held in the South West last year making it clear that Step Into Civvy Street is a great tool for both the Veterans and the organisations that attend. Cross Deck founder Paul 'Dixie' Dean commented -We were overwhelmed by the level of interest and support that we received for the pilot event in Exeter last year. As it was the first event we kept marketing to a minimum and took a softer approach towards encouraging businesses to come along. By the time it came to the big day the event had grown into something that none of us could have anticipated. Step Into Civvy Street is great news for everyone, not just the Veterans, employers and training providers involved but also the surrounding area and the organisations we work with to make this happen. Step Into Civvy Street Sheffield will see high profile employers such as Amazon and G4S take to their stands at Hillsborough Stadium as they seek out candidates from a pool of talent with a background in the military.
