Sheffield’s Shaun becomes Make Dough manager for Element Society

Award-winning Sheffield youth organisation Element Society have appointed Shaun Davies from Woodseats to manage their new mobile pizzeria- ‘Make Dough’.

This innovative pop-up pizzeria will be run by the not-for-profit’s young people themselves, to help them gain industry experience.

Shaun, who is originally from the North-East, previously had a 15-year career in theatres and restaurants around the Oxfordshire area before returning North to take up this role, explains:

“Discovering the inspiring social enterprise Element Society with its new Make Dough young entrepreneur development concept, felt like a natural fit for my experience and ambitions. Element is a not-for-profit organisation based in Sheffield City centre, which has supported over 4000 young people to volunteer over 200,000 hours to make a difference in their own lives and communities.  The profits from the partnership with the pizza business will provide valuable funds for Element, so that we can continue to enhance the lives of local young people and their Sheffield communities, whilst giving them the opportunity to enter the workforce and learn a wide range of important life skills.

Make Dough will provide great food for good causes, by using local produce and suppliers wherever possible to support producers in the Sheffield area.  In our first phase, Make Dough will be opening a pop-up pizzeria and provide events catering in the Sheffield & South Yorkshire area. By providing a good quality, health-conscious, seasonal menu which focuses on sustainability, value for money, and tastes delicious, we will also support the local economy in a socially responsible way.”

Element’s Business development manager, Cleo Metcalf, led a successful bid for £30,000 from the Social Investment Business to back Make Dough.

Now Shaun is keen to partner with others:

“We want to work with other social enterprises in the South Yorkshire Area to support the Sheffield Community, whether it be produce, equipment, advice or contacts or premises as we search for the right pop-up locations.”

Shaun adds, “If you're looking for catering for your wedding, special occasion or corporate event, please don't hesitate to get in touch.”
