New campus masterplan places Hallam at the heart of the city

5th March 2018

Sheffield Hallam University has today revealed its campus masterplan which places it at the heart of the city.

The campus masterplan is a 15-year proposal to create a sustainable and flexible campus that will allow Sheffield Hallam achieve its ambition of becoming the world's leading applied university. The first phase of the masterplan will cost around £220million and will be delivered over the next five years. It includes new buildings for the Business School and social sciences, refurbishing the Students' Union building known as The HUBS, creating a University Green and improving our current estate. Subsequent phases will see the campus consolidated including the refurbishment and redevelopment of existing buildings alongside new buildings; all designed to provide the flexibility to accommodate different student needs. The masterplan aims to deliver facilities and an estate that enables and encourages a new way of learning, researching and working. Professor Chris Husbands, Sheffield Hallam University Vice-Chancellor, said: "This is a bold vision for the long-term future of the University's estate which will enhance the presence and profile of the University in at the heart of the City Region and support its wider regeneration and development. "We want to create an exceptional environment in which to learn and work and a welcoming and inclusive environment for visitors to Sheffield. We are uniquely placed at the heart of the city to contribute to its vibrancy and reputation and we want to encourage everyone in the city, not just our staff and students to enjoy our campus by creating attractive public spaces. "In a shifting and highly competitive landscape students expect exceptional teaching, in an outstanding environment with increased opportunities. Meeting these expectations will demand imagination, as competition locally, nationally and globally increases, and resources tighten. The campus masterplan will provide the foundation and infrastructure required to deliver our ambition."
