New Co-Chair appointed to Chamber’s Transport Forum

26th May 2026

Leigh Bramall has been appointed as the new Co-Chair to the South Yorkshire Transport and Infrastructure Forum, run by Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and sponsored by Mott MacDonald.

The South Yorkshire Transport and Infrastructure Forum’s mission is to help South Yorkshire be home to one of the best transport systems in the United Kingdom. It represents the views of business interests engaged in substantive and strategic transport issues. The forum is committed to playing a positive and proactive role in building a transport system that works for everyone, connecting people to the places they want to go within the region as well as nationally and internationally. More details can be found here.

Leigh brings more than 15 years’ experience of working in the transport sector across both private-sector and political roles. He will join Sam Chapman, SCCI Non-Executive Director and Director of The Floow as Co-Chair.

Leigh said:

“I firmly believe that transport sits at the heart of many of the key issues both the country and our city face.

“We are in a period that offers greater opportunity than for many decades before, but this also requires significant change. Engaging the diverse spectrum of Chamber members on this agenda to stimulate debate and give members and the Chamber a strong voice is something I am keen to get involved with. I hope my varied experience can add real value, and allow me to be effective, in this role, working with Sam Chapman as co-chair.” Leigh Bramall

Leigh will take up his role in time for the next Transport Forum event on 10th June, which will hear from Sheffield City Council and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) on future transport plans. The event will also explore how partners can work collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes for the region, including the future expansion of the South Yorkshire Tram network. (Details of the event can be found here).

Forum sponsors, Mott MacDonald are delighted Leigh is joining Sam as Co-Chair.

“As sponsors of the South Yorkshire Regional Transport Forum, Mott MacDonald are delighted to welcome Leigh as co-chair alongside Sam. We are looking forward to working alongside Leigh in developing the Forum as a space for knowledge exchange between the business community, transport operators and public bodies in the region. We are also pleased to be hosting the event on 10th June and look forward to an engaging discussion with SYMCA, Sheffield City Council and wider stakeholders on future transport plans at this exciting time for the region.”

Sam Chapman added:

“The future of trams is a critical conversation for South Yorkshire at a time when long-term, sustainable transport solutions are needed to support economic growth, improve urban and intra-urban connectivity, as well as helping to meet regional net zero and pollution ambitions. As cities across the UK look at light rail as a strategic investment, now is the right moment to consider how South Yorkshire light rail capability could be extended to support the next generation of mobility in our region. This will bring together those involved in shaping the next stage of the regions tram future with key stakeholders. I’m pleased that this key discussion also marks the start of a new chapter for the Transport Forum, I’ll be joined by Leigh Bramall in his new role as co-chair, bringing further fresh insight and leadership to the regions transport agenda.”
