New Deputy Principal for Quality and Student Experience at The Sheffield College

A new Deputy Principal for Quality and Student Experience has been appointed at The Sheffield College.

Jo Kershaw has 20 years’ experience of working in further education and started in post on 3rd November 2025.

Jo said: “It’s great to return to my Northern roots and feel at home so quickly. I am passionate about the work of further education and the difference it makes and feel privileged to have joined The Sheffield College.”

She added: “My focus is on ensuring that we provide a positive and inclusive student experience for everyone in our college allowing them to thrive.”

Prior to joining The Sheffield College, Jo was Vice Principal for Curriculum and Quality at City College Norwich.

Jo began her further education career as a teacher at Hopwood Hall College teaching protective services after a 12-year career in Greater Manchester Police. 

She moved into curriculum and senior leadership roles at colleges including Blackpool and the Fylde College and Chesterfield College.

Jo’s remit at The Sheffield College includes developing the quality of teaching, learning and assessment and ensuring the qualifications meet the requirements of awarding organisations.

A key focus of Jo's work is overseeing and further enhancing the student experience including academic support, pastoral wellbeing, careers information and guidance, enrichment activities and financial support as well as quality assurance.

Angela Foulkes CBE, Chief Executive and Principal, The Sheffield College, said: 
“Jo is a strong and experienced advocate for the further education sector having seen the positive impact that it has transforming lives and supporting local communities. We’re really pleased to welcome Jo to the college.”

The latest Strategic Plan 2025 – 2030 outlines the college’s key priorities based on the four themes of learning, people, partnerships and sustainability.

As part of the learning theme, the college has pledged to celebrate diversity and provide a safe, respectful and inclusive environment where all students can thrive.

It is also committed to listening to and involving students in shaping the college experience.

The college curriculum including apprenticeships, vocational diplomas, A Levels, T Levels, access courses, and foundation and honours degrees.
